Thales, a global technology leader, has partnered with Cubic, a top provider of software-defined vehicle (SDV) solutions, to enhance connectivity management and drive innovation. Through this collaboration, Cubic will integrate Thales’s eSIM management platform to improve its eSIM capabilities, aligning with the latest GSMA standards to ensure seamless global connectivity in industries such as automotive, transportation, and agriculture. This partnership addresses the growing demand for smart, secure, and scalable connectivity management, driven by the adoption of the GSMA SGP.32 standard for IoT devices.
The new integration allows Thales’s eSIM platform, which complies with GSMA SGP.32, to be incorporated into Cubic’s global connectivity system. This breakthrough enables large-scale deployment of eSIMs across over 200 countries, simplifying the management of multiple devices and automating subscription activations and updates remotely. This significantly reduces manual intervention, physical SIM swaps, and device recalls.
Key Cubic clients, including Volkswagen AG, Cariad, General Motors, SEAT, IVECO, and CNH, can now leverage this solution to manage vehicle connectivity effortlessly. Vehicles equipped with Cubic’s solution, integrated with Thales’s platform, will automatically connect to local networks when crossing borders, eliminating development complexities and additional costs. This offers automotive manufacturers and their customers a seamless global experience, with pre-configured connectivity profiles that can be dynamically activated as vehicles are deployed.
“Thales has been a valued partner to Cubic since 2017,” said Nick Power, CTO of Cubic. “For OEMs, adopting GSMA M2M eSIM has been complex, with issues such as technical challenges, vendor lock-in, and managing global connectivity. This collaboration aims to simplify and streamline the transition to a more efficient and cost-effective global connectivity solution.”
Eva Rudin, VP of Mobile Connectivity Solutions at Thales, added, “This collaboration helps Cubic stay ahead in the evolving IoT connectivity landscape. Integrating Thales’s ‘On-Demand Subscription Manager’ will maximize end-to-end connectivity management, ensuring smooth connections from the factory to the field.”
