Texas Instruments (TI) has introduced a groundbreaking display controller that significantly enhances the performance and efficiency of 4K ultra-high-definition (UHD) projectors. The new controller, known as the DLPC8445, stands out as the smallest in its class, with dimensions of just 9mm by 9mm—the width of a standard pencil eraser.

This compact size allows for the creation of projectors capable of displaying images with a diagonal measurement of 100 inches or more, delivering vivid and high-quality visuals with exceptionally low latency.

By integrating the DLPC8445 with TI’s compatible digital micromirror device (DMD), the DLP472TP, and the power-management integrated circuit (PMIC) with LED driver, the DLPA3085, designers are empowered to develop projectors that rival the display quality of premium televisions and gaming monitors.

Jeff Marsh, vice president and general manager of DLP Products at TI, emphasizes that this new technology allows users to transform any wall into a large, crystal-clear screen, offering 4K UHD resolution and potentially eliminating the need for bulky TVs or monitors. This advancement is particularly significant for those seeking an immersive viewing experience, whether for gaming or lifestyle applications.

The market for game and lifestyle projectors is rapidly expanding as consumers look for deeper engagement with their favorite TV shows, movies, and various other media genres. The capabilities of the DLPC8445 controller, when paired with the DLP472TP DMD, enable designers to create displays with submillisecond latency.

This remarkable speed approaches the performance of the most expensive gaming monitors, greatly reducing lag time and enhancing the gaming experience. The DLPC8445 is also the first-ever DLP chipset to support variable refresh rate (VRR), which is crucial for synchronizing frame rates and eliminating issues such as lag, visual tearing, and stuttering. This feature ensures that gamers enjoy smooth and uninterrupted gameplay.

Moreover, the DLPC8445 incorporates advanced image-correction features that dynamically adjust for surface imperfections. This functionality allows users to maintain an optimal viewing experience regardless of where they are, making it easy to enjoy high-quality gaming and viewing on the go.

Notably, this controller is the first DLP controller specifically designed for battery-operated projectors that utilize laser light, paving the way for more portable and versatile projection solutions. Texas Instruments’ DLPC8445 display controller sets a new standard in the projector industry.

The controller’s small size, combined with the ability to deliver large, high-quality 4K UHD images with ultra-low latency, makes it a game-changer for both gaming and lifestyle applications. By leveraging this advanced technology, designers can create projectors that offer an unparalleled viewing experience, whether at home or on the move, further solidifying TI’s position as a leader in innovative display solutions.
