Tembo Classic Engineering Limited has announced that it has received a defence manufacturing licence from the Government of India to establish a dedicated small arms manufacturing facility in the state of Maharashtra. This significant development marks a key milestone in the company’s strategic expansion into the defence manufacturing sector and underscores its commitment to supporting India’s indigenous defence capabilities.

The licence, granted under the provisions of the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act, enables Tembo Classic Engineering to manufacture small arms and related defence products at its upcoming facility. The project aligns closely with the Government of India’s flagship initiatives such as “Make in India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” which aim to enhance self-reliance in defence production and reduce dependence on imports.

The proposed manufacturing facility will be developed with a strong focus on advanced engineering, precision manufacturing, and stringent quality control processes that comply with national and international defence standards. The company plans to incorporate modern production technologies, testing infrastructure, and skilled manpower to ensure reliable, safe, and high-performance products for defence and security forces.

The new facility is expected to cater to the requirements of the Indian armed forces, central armed police forces, and state police units, subject to applicable approvals and procurement processes. Over time, the company also aims to explore export opportunities in line with India’s defence export policy, contributing to the country’s ambition of becoming a global defence manufacturing hub.

In addition to enhancing defence preparedness, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities in the region and support the development of ancillary industries and local supply chains. Tembo Classic Engineering plans to collaborate with technology partners and invest in research and development to continuously upgrade product capabilities and manufacturing efficiencies.

Tembo Classic Engineering has a strong track record in engineering and manufacturing, with expertise across complex fabrication, machining, and industrial solutions. The entry into defence manufacturing represents a strategic diversification that leverages its core strengths while opening new long-term growth avenues. With the receipt of this licence, Tembo Classic Engineering takes an important step toward contributing to national security objectives while creating sustainable value for stakeholders.
