Teledyne FLIR Defense, a leader in maritime surveillance technology, introduced its latest innovation, the SeaFLIR® 240-EP, at the Indo-Pacific 2023 conference. This event, which took place at the International Convention Centre in Sydney, marks the Australian debut of this advanced imaging sensor.

The SeaFLIR® 240-EP is engineered to enhance a variety of maritime missions, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), search and rescue operations, and specialised tasks undertaken by Special Operations Forces. It boasts a lightweight stabilised turret, high-definition payload options, and cutting-edge inertial navigation capabilities. Its sophisticated image-processing technology and compact design make it an ideal choice for a range of vessels, from naval combatant crafts and small boats to unmanned surface vessels.

This innovative system has been chosen as the surveillance sensor for tactical boats produced by The Whiskey Project Group, a Sydney-based company. These boats are part of a recent contract awarded for providing vessels to the U.S. Marines in the Pacific region.

Robert Moss, Sr. Director of Business Development for Asia-Pacific at Teledyne FLIR, emphasised the compact yet powerful nature of the SeaFLIR 240. He highlighted its integration of advanced technologies, such as Aided Target Recognition (AiTR), enabled by FLIR’s neural network target classifier. This integration significantly enhances operational surveillance, threat detection, and situational awareness for users.

Robert Moss also noted that the SeaFLIR 240-EP represents the latest in the distinguished line of SeaFLIR and TacFLIR multi-spectral imaging products. The new model features a lightweight turret housed in a smaller gimbal, delivering a performance that rivals larger alternatives. In addition to the SeaFLIR 240-EP, Teledyne FLIR showcased its advanced unmanned aerial systems at the conference. Among these is the SkyRanger® R70 UAS, which has demonstrated impressive capabilities in deploying from both land vehicles and sea vessels for continuous operational surveillance and reconnaissance.
