Teledyne e2v has introduced engineering models of its LX2160-Space system-on-chip (SoC) processor, powered by a 16-core Arm® Cortex® A72 architecture, to facilitate early-stage project design, hardware validation, and software testing for demanding space applications. These engineering models maintain the same fit, form, and function as the final flight models, enabling seamless transitions from development to deployment.
The LX2160-Space processor is designed for high-performance computing in various space applications, including Earth observation satellites, early warning systems, and telecommunications. It is particularly well-suited for processing data in 5G NTN (Non-Terrestrial Networks) satellite communications.
Boasting a performance capacity of 200k DMIPS, the LX2160-Space excels in compute-intensive tasks like data and image processing. Its comprehensive peripheral set and efficient power consumption—just 2W per core—provide embedded engineers with an optimal balance of performance, compact size, and energy efficiency.
Drawing on Teledyne e2v’s over 40 years of expertise in qualifying high-reliability digital processing solutions, the LX2160-Space builds on the company’s legacy of PowerPC processors with a fully military-qualified Arm®-based design. Currently under development, the LX2160-Space project includes ongoing radiation characterization, with initial reports already available to customers.
The company plans to introduce radiation-tolerant space grades, including NASA Level 1 qualification, by the second half of 2025. Thomas Guillemain, Marketing & Business Development Manager for Data Processing Systems, highlighted the chipset’s ability to meet the growing demands of telecom and Earth observation satellites, particularly for managing larger data sets, higher resolutions, and real-time AI-based decision-making. Available in grades ranging from New Space to NASA Level 1, the LX2160-Space exemplifies Teledyne e2v’s commitment to innovation across sectors, including healthcare, transportation, defense, and industrial markets, through tailored solutions that address unique customer challenges.
Teledyne e2v continues to lead in providing innovative solutions across various sectors, including space, healthcare, defense, and industrial markets. By closely collaborating with customers to address their specific challenges, Teledyne e2v delivers tailored memory solutions that enhance the value and performance of their systems.
