Teledyne DALSA has announced the expansion of its AxCIS™ family of contact image sensors, introducing new models that deliver resolutions of up to 1,800 dpi and scanning widths reaching 1,500 mm. The latest additions strengthen the company’s position in high-performance machine vision technology, supporting manufacturers that require precision imaging for advanced industrial inspection tasks.
Designed as fully integrated line scan imaging modules, the AxCIS series combines sensors, optics, and illumination within a compact platform. The integrated architecture simplifies installation while reducing system complexity and operational costs for manufacturers operating in industries such as semiconductor fabrication, battery production, and high-speed print inspection.
The upgraded AxCIS range is powered by Teledyne’s multiline CMOS image sensor technology, enabling high-speed image capture with exceptional clarity. The system delivers monochrome line rates of up to 80 kHz at a 14 µm pixel size while supporting resolutions up to 1,800 dpi. For color inspection applications, the platform provides native RGB three-line imaging at rates of up to 60 kHz with a 28 µm pixel size and 900 dpi resolution. This capability allows inspection systems to detect minute flaws and inconsistencies with greater precision across a variety of production environments.
A key feature of the expanded AxCIS platform is its high dynamic range capability, which improves visibility in applications where defect detection can be affected by uneven lighting or material reflectivity. The sensor architecture also ensures complete image coverage across the full field of view without missing pixels or requiring interpolation, resulting in seamless image output suitable for metrology-grade inspection processes. In addition, the telecentric lens design supports accurate dimensional measurement and repeatable inspection performance.
The new AxCIS modules have been engineered for scalability across multiple inspection widths while operating from a single 24V power supply. Their compact footprint and IP60-rated dust-resistant optical path make them suitable for integration into systems with limited installation space or demanding industrial conditions.
To support high-speed data transfer, AxCIS incorporates an SFP+ fiber-optic interface capable of transmitting large volumes of imaging data over long cable distances. The interface also offers strong resistance to electromagnetic interference, ensuring reliable operation in harsh factory environments.
