Tejas Networks, a Tata Group telecom equipment company, has successfully completed the delivery of telecom gear to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for the establishment of 100,000 4G and 5G sites. The equipment was provided under a contract signed in August 2023.

Tejas Networks’ CEO and Managing Director, Anand Athreya, commented on the achievement during the company’s earnings call, highlighting that the supply of over 100,000 sites for BSNL’s 4G/5G network is one of the largest single-vendor Radio Access Network (RAN) projects ever delivered globally in such a short timeframe. He praised the efforts of the team and the collaborative support from consortium members, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), C-DoT, and BSNL.

The Rs 7,492 crore contract was secured after completing extensive trials as part of a consortium led by TCS. BSNL is expected to roll out its 4G services by June 2025, almost a decade after private operators introduced their 4G offerings. The BSNL network is planned to be upgraded to 5G following the successful stabilization of 4G services.

In its recent earnings report, Tejas Networks posted a consolidated loss of Rs 72 crore for the March quarter, while revenue from operations increased by 44% to Rs 1,907 crore. For the year ended March 31, 2025, the company reported a significant rise in consolidated profit to Rs 446.53 crore and a more than threefold increase in revenue, which reached Rs 8,923 crore.

Additionally, Tejas Networks announced a strategic technology partnership with NEC Corporation of Japan for the joint development of advanced wireless technologies, RAN technologies, and engineering procurement and construction (EPC) solutions. The companies will also collaborate on a joint go-to-market strategy.

In December 2024, Tejas Networks secured a three-year contract with Vodafone Idea Ltd. (VIL) to supply telecom equipment for enhancing the company’s backend network across several regions. Tejas Networks’ Chief Operating Officer, Arnob Roy, confirmed the successful completion of the Phase 1 shipment for VIL and the execution of the associated project. Tejas Networks is currently in advanced discussions for a follow-up contract with BSNL and is preparing to tender for the Rail Kavach train security project.
