Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Best Buy have entered into an agreement to transition Best Buy’s Global Capability Center (GCC) in India to TCS as part of a broader programme to expand artificial intelligence, technology and engineering capabilities. Under the agreement, the Best Buy India entity will transition to TCS while continuing to support Best Buy’s business and technology priorities. The centre will progressively transform into an AI-native Capability Center under a multi-year agreement.
The partnership will combine Best Buy India’s retail and enterprise knowledge with TCS’ technology, engineering, artificial intelligence and global delivery capabilities. The companies will work to redesign workflows, develop AI-powered solutions and scale capabilities across Best Buy’s operations.
Krishnan Ramanujam, President, Consumer Business Group, TCS, said, “Best Buy has built a strong technology organization with deep knowledge of its customers and business. By bringing that talent together with TCS’ retail expertise, AI, engineering and global execution capabilities, we will create an AI-native capability engine that aligns Best Buy’s priorities. This partnership will also create a repeatable value platform that can potentially benefit the broader retail industry.”
The transition will use TCS’ Global Value & Innovation Centres framework to support the development of new technology and business capabilities. Teams will work on AI-enabled experiences and solutions while expanding the centre’s capabilities over time.
Ahrey Smith, Vice President of Technology Strategy and Transformation, Best Buy, said, “Our India team has played an important role in advancing Best Buy’s priorities, and we wanted a partner that understood both the business context and the value of this team. TCS brings that understanding, along with the technology and AI capabilities to build on the team’s strengths and meaningful opportunities for employees to continue learning and growing in their careers.”
Best Buy India employees will join TCS as part of the transition. The arrangement is intended to maintain business continuity while giving employees access to TCS’ global learning programmes, technology capabilities, AI skills and international opportunities.
The companies said the agreement will combine Best Buy’s understanding of retail operations and customers with TCS’ experience in technology services and artificial intelligence. The centre will focus on developing capabilities that can support Best Buy’s technology and business priorities while creating a platform for continued innovation. The agreement also expands TCS’ role in supporting Global Capability Centers, covering activities from building and scaling technology centres to transforming them into AI-focused operations.
