TCS and IIT Kharagpur Unveil Advanced Research Center for Innovations

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global IT leader, has joined forces with the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP) to establish a state-of-the-art research center focusing on digital health, robotics, and intelligent systems. Situated in IIT KGP’s New Town Research Park in Kolkata, the center will house three cutting-edge laboratories dedicated to advancements in sensing and communications, edge computing and analytics, and robotics and visual computing. With over 150 TCS scientists leveraging technologies such as embedded systems, AI, and edge computing, the facility aims to drive groundbreaking innovations.

Dr Harrick Vin, Chief Technology Officer at TCS, emphasized the transformative collaboration model that co-locates research labs within academic institutions, enabling efficient knowledge exchange and innovation. The initiative builds on TCS’s earlier efforts with IIT Madras and marks a significant step in its strategy of fostering industry-academia partnerships.

This research hub will not only support TCS-funded programs but also feature a customer experience center where industries such as healthcare, agriculture, and mobility can explore practical applications of emerging technologies. The collaboration will facilitate interdisciplinary workshops with contributions from TCS experts, IIT KGP faculty, and industry leaders to solve pressing industrial challenges.

Prof Virendra Kumar Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur, highlighted the center’s potential to address critical issues in healthcare and automation through advanced research. He underlined the significance of this partnership in empowering future technologists and contributing to the fields of intelligent systems and sustainable innovation.
