TCPL GES, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Cummins Private Limited (TCPL), a joint venture between Tata Motors Limited and Cummins Inc. USA, inaugurated a new advanced manufacturing facility today. This facility is dedicated to producing hydrogen-based Internal Combustion Engines for Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles, along with other low to zero emission technology products in India.
The inauguration of this facility underscores its commitment to fostering a cleaner and more sustainable future for India. Spanning nearly seven acres in Jamshedpur, the facility boasts cutting-edge technology and infrastructure. This reflects the dedication of both Tata Motors and Cummins to innovation, manufacturing excellence, and environmental sustainability. The plant’s opening within a year of signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State of Jharkhand reaffirms the commitment and steady progress made by the two organizations in advancing their decarbonization strategy.
Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, commented on the occasion, stating, “Tata Motors’ longstanding legacy of nation-building, innovations, and industry firsts gains further momentum with the opening of this new-age manufacturing facility. The hydrogen-based powertrain aggregates and systems produced here will shape the future of mobility in India, making it smarter and greener. He highlighted their focus on manufacturing advanced, low to zero-emission technology products to promote decarbonization, underscoring this commitment as a responsibility backed by tangible actions. Leveraging their global expertise, strategic partnerships, and technological capabilities, Cummins is steadily advancing its Destination Zero strategy.
The partnership between Tata Motors and Cummins in India spans three decades, primarily through their joint venture Tata Cummins Private Limited (TCPL). In March 2023, TCPL GES, a subsidiary of TCPL, was established to collaborate on designing and developing low and zero-emission propulsion technology solutions for commercial vehicles in India. These solutions, deployed across various applications, will play a vital role in developing sustainable powertrain solutions, supporting India’s net-zero ambitions, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Aligned with PLANET 2050, Cummins’ long-term business strategy focusing on environmental sustainability, the company’s dedication to sustainability extends beyond its products to its manufacturing operations. During the construction of the new facility, Cummins prioritized sustainable practices, including using eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems, and waste reduction measures.
