Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Friday that the semiconductor plant being built by Tata Electronics in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, Assam, will commence production of “Made in India” chips in 2026. After inspecting the project’s progress, the Minister stated that construction of the ultra-modern facility is expected to be completed by 2025, paving the way for production the following year. The plant is projected to employ around 40,000 individuals.

“This will be India’s largest semiconductor facility and a major milestone for the country’s electronics manufacturing sector,” the Minister said. He emphasized that the plant aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision for advancing the “Ashta Lakshmi” states, providing a platform for the Northeast to play a key role in a cutting-edge industry.

Highlighting the significance of the project, the Minister remarked, “It will be a proud moment when ‘Made in Assam’ chips are used in the automobile industries of nations such as Japan, the USA, and Germany. This initiative will not only boost Assam’s contribution to the nation’s economy but also strengthen India’s global position in semiconductor manufacturing.”
