Tata Steel Kalinganagar has successfully rolled out the first batch of galvanised coils from its newly installed Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL-1) at the Cold Rolling Mill complex. This major achievement was celebrated with a flag-off ceremony led by Karamveer Singh, General Manager (Operations) of Tata Steel Kalinganagar, along with Rabindra Kumar Jamuda, President of the Tata Steel Kalinganagar Worker’s Union, and other senior leaders.
This milestone represents a significant enhancement of Tata Steel’s capabilities, especially in meeting the demands of the automotive and home appliance industries. The cutting-edge CGL-1 technology features a third-generation air-knife with a magnetic stabiliser, an oxidation chamber, and top-tier secondary coatings. These innovations allow for the production of premium automotive steel, including Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS), ensuring exceptional quality, consistency, and performance.
Prabhat Kumar, Vice President – Marketing & Sales (Flat Products), Tata Steel, commented: “The new CGL-1 line at Kalinganagar is designed to produce advanced coated products with superior surface quality, formability, and corrosion resistance – all specifically tailored to meet the exacting standards of the automotive and appliance sectors. This forward-thinking facility is geared to address the evolving needs of our customers, reinforcing Tata Steel’s position as a reliable partner for the future of mobility.”
In a major development last year, Tata Steel launched India’s largest blast furnace at Kalinganagar. The ongoing Phase II expansion, with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore, has raised the site’s total capacity from 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 8 MTPA. The CGL-1, part of the Cold Rolling Mill, plays a crucial role in this expansion, alongside other facilities such as the Pellet Plant and Coke Plant, all featuring advanced technology and sustainable practices.
