TPCODL, a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, inaugurated a cutting-edge Power Distribution Technology Centre in Bhubaneswar today, aimed at transforming power distribution and operational efficiency in the state. The facility was inaugurated by Shri K. V. Singh Deo, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, in the presence of Shri Manoj Ahuja, Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha; Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power; Mr. Sanjay Banga, President T&D, Tata Power; and other senior officials from the Government and Tata Power.
This state-of-the-art centre integrates advanced Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) systems, along with a 24×7 Power System Control Centre (PSCC) for real-time monitoring, ensuring uninterrupted power supply across Odisha. It aims to enhance the resilience of the state’s power distribution network and improve operational reliability.
Speaking at the inauguration, Shri K. V. Singh Deo stated, “The Power Distribution Technology Centre is a significant step towards making Odisha a leader in distribution efficiency. With cutting-edge infrastructure, it will ensure reliable and robust power delivery, supporting both consumers and industries across the state. Tata Power’s dedication to strengthening Odisha’s power sector is commendable.”
The centre is equipped with Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) to improve network reliability and operational precision. Geographical Information System (GIS) technology enhances asset management and consumer indexing, while the Utility Data Stream (UDS) integrates GIS, billing, and metering for automated energy audits. Additional features like real-time weather monitoring and satellite communication strengthen connectivity and operational continuity.
The PSCC oversees the 33 kV network, including 224 SCADA-integrated substations and their 11 kV infrastructure, ensuring efficient operations. A robust Data Centre with over 100 racks and 400 servers supports essential consumer services such as websites, mobile apps, billing systems, and call centres.
The centre also strengthens disaster recovery capabilities for all four Tata Power-led Odisha DISCOMs. It functions as the Main Control Centre (MCC) for TPCODL and as a Backup Control Centre (BCC) for TPWODL, TPSODL, and TPNODL, ensuring uninterrupted operations during disruptions.
Tata Power-led Odisha DISCOMs have been continuously upgrading their infrastructure to deliver reliable and sustainable power. This new technology hub marks a milestone in their journey, embodying the vision of creating one of India’s most advanced power distribution systems. Serving over 5 crore consumers, the centre sets a new benchmark for real-time network management and seamless operations in Odisha.
