Tata Power’s solar manufacturing arm, TP Solar Ltd., has officially opened its state-of-the-art 4.3 GW solar cell and module production facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The inauguration was led by the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, marking a major step in the state’s industrial development. The event was attended by key figures such as Thiru T.R.B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries & Commerce, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, and Mr. Deepesh Nanda, CEO & MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited.
The newly inaugurated plant is now India’s largest solar manufacturing facility at a single location, featuring advanced TOPCon and Mono Perc technologies. Designed to support the country’s increasing renewable energy needs, the facility will produce high-efficiency solar cells and modules, playing a crucial role in India’s clean energy transition.
Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, shared his pride in the facility’s launch, emphasizing Tata Power’s dedication to building a sustainable and self-reliant India. He also expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government and all those who supported the project. The plant not only highlights cutting-edge technology but also contributes to community development by providing job opportunities, with 80% of the workforce being women. This initiative aligns with Tata Power’s ongoing efforts to support Tamil Nadu’s economic growth and India’s renewable energy goals.
This new facility not only boosts India’s solar manufacturing capabilities but also reflects Tata Power’s vision to foster sustainable growth and innovation within the renewable energy sector. With plans for future expansion and wider market distribution, the plant will initially supply solar components for Tata Power’s ongoing projects, reinforcing its supply chain. In addition to this new plant, Tata Power operates a solar manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, which has been operational since 1992. Through these initiatives, Tata Power continues to contribute to India’s energy security and its journey toward a Net-Zero carbon future.
