Tata Power will invest ₹550 crore to establish solar and wind power facilities, along with necessary infrastructure, to provide clean energy to the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA), according to a recent statement.
The company has signed two power purchase agreements to support NIA’s energy needs with renewable sources. Under the agreement, Tata Power Trading Company Ltd (TPTCL), a Tata Power subsidiary, will deliver 10.8 MW of wind energy to the airport, utilizing assets secured by Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL).
Additionally, TPREL will develop, operate, and maintain a 13 MW onsite solar power facility to further support the airport’s electricity requirements. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, remarked, “This partnership supports the development of Net Zero Airports, serving millions and contributing to India’s progress toward a sustainable future.”
The Noida International Airport’s first phase, featuring a single runway and terminal, is designed to accommodate 12 million passengers annually. Upon full completion in four phases, the airport aims to serve up to 70 million passengers each year.
Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, highlighted the airport’s commitment to sustainability, noting that sourcing over half of its energy from renewable resources aligns with its goal to lead in eco-friendly airport operations.
Noida International Airport (NIA), currently under development in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is set to become a major aviation hub in India, enhancing connectivity for the National Capital Region. Planned to be one of the country’s largest and most sustainable airports, NIA will feature multiple runways, passenger terminals, and cargo facilities designed to handle up to 70 million passengers per year upon full completion.
The airport’s construction aligns with international standards for green infrastructure, integrating solar and wind energy sources to reduce carbon emissions and support India’s climate goals. Once operational, Noida International Airport is expected to drive regional economic growth and become a model for eco-friendly airport design.
