Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a unit of Tata Power, has introduced a new initiative to promote solar energy adoption in Tamil Nadu. The programme, named ‘GharGhar Solar, Tata Power ke Sang,’ aims to make sustainable and affordable solar energy accessible to households across the state.
Following its success in regions like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Chhattisgarh, the initiative was officially launched in Coimbatore, with Tata Power CEO and MD Praveer Sinha, and TPREL CEO and MD Deepesh Nanda in attendance. Supported by 42 channel partners, the programme will extend across all districts of Tamil Nadu to facilitate a smooth transition for households to clean energy.
Tamil Nadu, already recognized as a solar energy hub, boasts over 240 megawatts (MW) of installed solar capacity across various sectors. A major project in the state is Tata Power’s 4.3-gigawatt (GW) solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, which aims to reduce dependence on imports by producing indigenous solar cells and modules, aligning with India’s renewable energy goals.
“The GharGhar Solar initiative in Tamil Nadu is a critical step in promoting clean and affordable rooftop solar solutions. This campaign will help thousands of households reduce their electricity expenses by switching to solar power,” said Sinha.
The programme offers financial incentives through rooftop solar solutions (RTS), in line with the government’s PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Homeowners can receive subsidies—₹30,000 for 1-kilowatt systems, ₹60,000 for 2 kilowatts, and ₹78,000 for systems ranging from 3 to 10 kilowatts—making the switch to solar more affordable. In addition to installation subsidies, households can benefit from metering options, allowing them to earn credits for surplus energy produced, further lowering their energy bills.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, is a leading player in the renewable energy sector in India. Established to drive Tata Power’s clean energy initiatives, TPREL focuses on harnessing sustainable energy sources like solar and wind.
With a rapidly growing portfolio of renewable assets, the company has installed numerous solar and wind power plants across the country. TPREL is committed to contributing to India’s energy transition by increasing its share of green energy, aligning with the nation’s goals for a sustainable, low-carbon future. Its efforts play a crucial role in reducing the country’s dependency on conventional fossil fuels while promoting environmental conservation and energy security.
