On September 30, Tata Power announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan state government, outlining a comprehensive 10-year plan involving an investment of approximately ₹1.2 lakh crore aimed at power distribution, transmission, and renewable energy initiatives.

This ambitious plan seeks to transform Rajasthan into a power surplus state by ensuring a continuous supply of clean, affordable, and reliable energy. The investment will focus on renewable energy projects, manufacturing, transmission, distribution, nuclear power, rooftop solar installations, and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Tata Power emphasized that this agreement positions Rajasthan as a key player in India’s clean energy transition.

The memorandum of understanding outlines several key initiatives, including a total investment of approximately ₹1.2 lakh crore, with nearly ₹75,000 crore dedicated to renewable energy projects. This includes the development of 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity, comprising 6,000 MW from solar and 4,000 MW from hybrid sources across Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jodhpur.

Additionally, a state-of-the-art solar module manufacturing facility with a capacity of 2,000 MW will be established in Jodhpur, requiring an investment of ₹2,000 crore. The agreement also encompasses upgrades to the state’s transmission and distribution infrastructure, with ₹20,000 crore allocated for distribution improvements and ₹10,000 crore for transmission enhancements to modernize the grid, reduce energy losses, and improve power quality.

Furthermore, a proposed investment of ₹1,000 crore aims to create 100,000 EV charging points throughout Rajasthan, alongside the implementation of rooftop solar power systems for 1 million households as part of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

The MoU is expected to have a significant socio-economic impact, generating over 28,000 direct jobs in the state. Tata Power aims to foster local industries in solar manufacturing, infrastructure development, and renewable energy innovations.

Additionally, the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources will help lower energy costs for both industries and consumers, enhancing Rajasthan’s appeal as a destination for green investments and sustainable industrial growth. Tata Power already has a notable presence in Rajasthan, having successfully commissioned 1 GW of solar projects and 185 MW of wind projects, along with 130 MW of rooftop solar installations in the state.
