Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a leading player in the renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, has been awarded a Letter of Award (LoA) by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for the development of a 400 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid project in Maharashtra.
The LoA encompasses an initial contracted capacity of 200 MW, with an option to expand by an additional 200 MW, marking it as the largest renewable energy project in Maharashtra to date for TPREL. This project is part of MSEDCL’s initiative to fulfill the state’s Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) and meet future energy demands at competitive rates. The LoA was granted through a competitive bidding process via an electronic reverse auction portal.
TPREL’s success in securing this contract is attributed to its expertise and competitive advantage in executing large-scale renewable projects. The project is slated for completion within 24 months following the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with MSEDCL and is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions by approximately 895 million kilograms of CO2 annually.
The hybrid project, which will integrate both solar and wind energy, will supply electricity to MSEDCL, supporting the utility in sustainably meeting its energy needs and expanding Maharashtra’s renewable energy capabilities. The installation will also efficiently utilize local land resources, contributing to regional development. This partnership highlights TPREL’s commitment to advancing Maharashtra’s renewable energy goals and transitioning to a low-carbon future.
With this new project, TPREL’s total renewable energy capacity rises to 10.5 GW, including 5.7 GW of projects in various development stages and an operational capacity of 4.8 GW, comprising 3.8 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind energy.
