Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power and a leading player in India’s renewable energy sector, has successfully commissioned a 431 MW DC solar power project in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh. This milestone marks one of India’s most cost-effective large-scale solar energy initiatives, awarded through a competitive bidding process.

Spread across 1,635 acres, the Neemuch project integrates advanced technology, including single-axis trackers and bi-facial solar modules, making it India’s first solar project of its kind. This innovative setup enhances system efficiency by over 15%, enabling extended peak power generation. Despite challenges such as rocky terrain, transmission line readiness, and logistical constraints, the project was completed with groundbreaking solutions and engineering excellence.

Commenting on the achievement, Deepesh Nanda, CEO and MD of TPREL, said, “The successful commissioning of the Neemuch project reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation. This project not only strengthens India’s solar sector but also underscores Tata Power Renewables’ dedication to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy reliability.” The project will supply clean power to key infrastructure partners like Western Central Railways and Madhya Pradesh Power Management Co. Ltd., offsetting an estimated 7,80,300 tonnes of CO2 annually.

The system adheres to stringent engineering standards, incorporating SCADA systems for real-time monitoring, CEA compliance, and advanced equipment like Static Var Generators and harmonic filters for reliable operation. Manu Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary, New and Renewable Energy Department of Madhya Pradesh, highlighted, “This project not only showcases the potential of cost-effective solar energy but also reinforces Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to driving India’s green energy goals through innovative and sustainable solutions.”

With the Neemuch project, TPREL’s total renewable energy capacity has reached 10.9 GW, including 5.5 GW under development and 5.4 GW operational, comprising 4.4 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind projects. Tata Power, a leader in India’s energy transition, operates a diversified 15.5 GW portfolio across renewable and conventional energy, transmission, distribution, and storage solutions. With 43% of its capacity dedicated to clean energy, Tata Power is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2045 while serving over 12.5 million customers nationwide.
