Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has taken a significant stride towards advancing India’s clean energy landscape by forging an agreement with state-owned SJVN Ltd to establish a 460 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project. This collaboration marks a pivotal move towards bolstering the country’s sustainable power infrastructure and meeting the escalating demand for clean energy solutions.
An FDRE plant is uniquely positioned to provide round-the-clock power supply, thereby aiding power distribution companies (discoms) in meeting their Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs) and Energy Storage Obligations (ESOs). The innovative project is designed to integrate solar, wind, and battery storage technologies, ensuring efficient energy dispatch during peak hours and contributing to grid stability.
“The plant, tailored to fulfill the 460 MW FDRE requirement, underscores our commitment to deploying cutting-edge sustainable energy solutions,” remarked Deepesh Nanda, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. “This partnership with SJVN Ltd will play a pivotal role in advancing the green energy objectives of both organizations,” he added.
TPREL anticipates that the project will generate nearly 3,000 million units (MUs) of power annually and mitigate approximately 2,200 million kilograms of CO2 emissions each year. With this collaboration, TPREL’s total renewables capacity has soared to 9,421 MW, including projects totaling 4,906 MW currently under various stages of implementation. The company’s operational capacity presently stands at 4,515 MW, encompassing 3,485 MW of solar power and 1,030 MW of wind power.
The partnership between TPREL and SJVN Ltd exemplifies their shared commitment to advancing clean energy initiatives and driving sustainable development in India. By leveraging innovative technologies and strategic collaborations, the companies aim to contribute significantly to the nation’s renewable energy targets and accelerate the transition towards a greener future.
