Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), the clean energy division of Tata Power, has partnered with Tata Motors to establish a 131 MW hybrid energy project that combines both wind and solar power. This collaboration marks a significant step in advancing renewable energy use in the industrial sector.
The project is expected to generate around 300 million units of renewable electricity each year, significantly cutting carbon emissions by over 200,000 tons annually. Structured through a co-investment model and a long-term energy supply agreement, this hybrid system will serve six Tata Motors manufacturing plants located in Maharashtra and Gujarat. It will support their production of both commercial and passenger vehicles by ensuring consistent, affordable green power.
This initiative plays a crucial role in helping Tata Motors move closer to its goal of sourcing 100% renewable energy (RE-100) well before its 2030 deadline. It also strengthens the company’s broader sustainability plans, which focus on carbon neutrality and environmentally responsible manufacturing practices.
TPREL’s hybrid approach—integrating wind, solar, floating solar, and storage solutions—ensures round-the-clock power delivery. This model helps industries with high energy demands reduce their carbon footprint while controlling energy costs. With a wide operational presence and strong project delivery expertise, TPREL continues to build tailored energy solutions across the country.
To date, TPREL has surpassed 1.5 GW in total group captive capacity. The company works across multiple sectors such as steel, automotive, retail, real estate, and hospitality. Its ongoing partnerships within the Tata Group—including collaborations with Tata Steel, Tata Communications, and Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL)—are accelerating the Group’s shift to sustainable energy sources.
Currently, under its group captive program, TPREL manages around 478 MW of operating renewable capacity, with another 1.1 GW in the pipeline. These projects are scheduled to be completed over the next 6 to 24 months, taking the total capacity to over 1.5 GW.
TPREL, a wholly owned arm of Tata Power, ranks among India’s top renewable energy developers. The company specializes in projects involving solar, wind, hybrid systems, round-the-clock (RTC) power, floating solar, and energy storage technologies. TPREL manages these projects from development to operations and maintenance.
It also offers turnkey green energy solutions for both rural and urban markets, including engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for utility-scale and rooftop installations. Its advanced solar manufacturing facility in Bengaluru has capacities of 530 MW for solar cells and 682 MW for modules. A new plant in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, boosts this further with a combined capacity of 4.3 GW.
Beyond generation, TPREL is also active in building EV charging infrastructure and providing advisory services in the renewable energy space. As of now, TPREL’s total renewable capacity stands at 10.9 GW, including 8.9 GW secured under power purchase agreements and 5.5 GW already operational (with 4.5 GW solar and 1 GW wind).
The company’s EPC portfolio exceeds 15.7 GWp of ground-mount utility-scale projects, along with over 2.5 GW of rooftop and distributed installations. Through its comprehensive green solutions, TPREL is committed to expanding energy access and supporting India’s journey towards a low-carbon future.
