Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (OREDA) to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar systems among residential consumers in Odisha under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY). The state of Odisha offers significant subsidies for rooftop solar installations, with up to INR 60,000 available for systems of up to 3 kW. When combined with the INR 78,000 central government subsidy under PMSGY, residents can receive a total subsidy of up to INR 138,000 for 3 kW rooftop solar units, one of the highest subsidy packages in the country.
Tata Power, which manages power distribution across Odisha through its four DISCOMs in partnership with the State Government, will work with the DISCOMs to implement the PMSGY scheme, facilitating the widespread adoption of solar energy in residential areas. OREDA has officially designated Tata Power Renewable Energy as one of its preferred solar partners, with a target to install solar systems in 300,000 households by 2027.
TPREL will ensure reliable and user-friendly solar solutions, offering lifetime care for the systems. The company, along with OREDA and its banking and financial partners, will lead awareness campaigns in high-traffic areas such as malls, airports, and train stations. Additionally, TPREL will create educational resources on the benefits of renewable energy, conduct training programs for local vendors, and support the development of local expertise in rooftop solar installation and maintenance.
OREDA will collaborate with TPREL on public awareness campaigns and provide guidance to government agencies, while also overseeing the initiative’s progress. The program will initially focus on major cities including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Paradip, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Balasore, and Rourkela, with plans for statewide expansion.
