Tata Power, one of India’s leading integrated power companies, has teamed up with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to enhance workforce readiness and skill development in India’s power sector. The focus will be on training for green jobs, as well as skills in power transmission and distribution to boost employability.
Under this partnership, the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) will serve as NSDC’s training partner, offering industry-focused programs in green energy, power transmission, distribution, and industrial safety. These programs will feature hands-on training to equip trainees with practical skills that enhance employability and meet the evolving needs of the energy transition and net-zero workforce.
TPSDI, which has already trained over 300,000 individuals, plays a key role in bridging skill gaps within the sector. Tata Power plans to expand TPSDI’s reach by establishing additional training centers across India, complementing the existing 11 centers, to make vocational training more accessible to young people across the country. The partnership will also introduce new training domains such as energy storage, green hydrogen, and pumped hydro, in line with India’s growing green energy initiatives, to support the nation’s transition to clean energy.
The partnership agreement was signed at TPSDI-Shahad, one of the training hubs, during the Institute’s Annual Meet. Key figures at the signing included Nitin Kapoor, Vice President of NSDC Academy, and Alok Prasad, Head of TPSDI, alongside other dignitaries from Tata Power and NSDC. All participants emphasized the importance of skill development and empowering youth as key drivers of sustainable development and growth.
Himal Tewari, CHRO and Chief of Sustainability & CSR at Tata Power, remarked, “Our partnership with NSDC strengthens our shared commitment to building a future-ready workforce for India’s evolving energy sector. Tata Power has always prioritized human capital development, and TPSDI has already trained over three lakh individuals to help close skill gaps in the power sector. This collaboration with NSDC will further scale our impact, aligning with the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and supporting India’s green energy workforce.”
Mr Kapoor of NSDC Academy added, “This partnership is a key milestone for Skill India. TPSDI’s legacy in building capacity and promoting inclusive skilling will help professionals continuously upskill in the transforming energy landscape. Together, we can accelerate India’s goal of creating a digitally smart, energy-efficient workforce.” This collaboration represents an important step in creating a skilled, industry-ready, and digitally empowered youth workforce, aligned with India’s green growth and sustainable energy goals.
