Tata Motors, the leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India, has inaugurated its cutting-edge vehicle scrapping facility (RVSF) in Guwahati. Named ‘Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect,’ the facility is capable of safely dismantling up to 15,000 end-of-life vehicles annually using eco-friendly and sustainable methods. Operated in partnership with Axom Platinum Scrappers, the facility can process both passenger and commercial vehicles of all brands. This marks the opening of the seventh such facility in India, with others located in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, and Pune.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Shri Jogen Mohan, Minister of Hill Areas Development, Transport, Co-operation, Indigenous and Tribal Faith & Culture, Shri Ashok Singhal, Minister of Health, Family Welfare and Irrigation, Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, and Dr Sanjive Narain, Director of Axom Automobiles, along with senior officials from the Government of Assam, Tata Motors, and Axom Automobiles.
In his speech, Shri Jogen Mohan highlighted the importance of the facility in providing employment opportunities and boosting the state’s economy. He also emphasized its role in safely disposing of end-of-life vehicles, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting a cleaner environment. He thanked Tata Motors for introducing innovative facilities in Assam.
Shri Ashok Singhal also addressed the gathering, underscoring the significance of the facility in creating a greener and more sustainable Assam. He noted that the modern plant would enhance the state’s vehicle disposal ecosystem, benefiting both the environment and the people of Assam.
Mr Wagh remarked, “With the opening of the Northeast’s first Re.Wi.Re facility in Guwahati, Tata Motors takes a major step toward responsible vehicle scrapping in the region. By adhering to circular economy principles, we are supporting sustainability through our network of RVSFs, which can now process over 100,000 end-of-life vehicles annually. We are grateful to Axom Platinum Scrappers for partnering with us and appreciate the unwavering support of the state government and local authorities in making this initiative possible.”
Each Re.Wi.Re facility is fully digitalized, offering a seamless, paperless operation. It includes both cell-type and line-type dismantling systems for commercial and passenger vehicles, with dedicated stations for safely handling components such as tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, and gases. Every vehicle undergoes a detailed documentation and dismantling process, ensuring compliance with the nation’s vehicle scrappage policy and safe disposal of all parts. The Re.Wi.Re initiative represents a major leap forward in sustainable practices within the automotive sector.
