Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has inaugurated its eighth Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Kolkata, named ‘Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect’. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to dismantle up to 21,000 end-of-life vehicles annually, including passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as two-wheelers and three-wheelers from all brands.
The facility is operated by Tata Motors’ partner, Selladale Synergies India, and is fully digitalized for seamless, paperless operations. It features dedicated stations for the safe dismantling of components such as tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids, and gases, ensuring compliance with the nation’s vehicle scrappage policy.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Snehasis Chakraborty, Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Government of West Bengal; Firhad Hakim, Mayor of Kolkata and Hon’ble Minister of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Government of West Bengal; and Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, along with other dignitaries from the Government of West Bengal and Tata Motors.
Mr Chakraborty emphasized the facility’s role in promoting a cleaner and more efficient future, supporting the adoption of newer, safer, and energy-efficient vehicles, and creating circular economy opportunities within the transport sector. Mr. Hakim highlighted the facility’s contribution to sustainable development and job creation in the state.
Mr Kaul reaffirmed Tata Motors’ commitment to driving sustainable mobility solutions and fostering a circular economy. He noted that with the cumulative capacity of dismantling more than 130,000 vehicles annually across eight Tata Motors RVSFs, the company is leading the way in transforming India’s vehicle scrapping ecosystem with a focus on safety, compliance, and sustainability.
The Kolkata Re.Wi.Re facility is the third in eastern India, following similar facilities in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, and Guwahati. Each Re.Wi.Re facility is purpose-built for dismantling end-of-life vehicles across all brands, employing environmentally friendly practices and adhering to stringent documentation and dismantling processes to ensure the safe disposal of all components.
