Tata Motors has signed a memorandum of understanding with Green Energy Mobility, a subsidiary of Universal Bus Services (UBS), for the supply of 100 electric intercity buses to the state of Tamil Nadu. The agreement was formalized during the Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0 held in Chennai, in the presence of Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T R B Rajaa. Tata Motors used the event to showcase its latest range of commercial passenger vehicles and mobility solutions.
The electric buses, branded under the Magna EV line, are 44-seater models capable of covering up to 300 kilometers on a single charge. They feature modern safety systems such as electronic braking (EBS) and electronic stability control (ESC).
Speaking on the occasion, Anand S, Vice President and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicles at Tata Motors, said, “This collaboration marks an important step in modernizing long-distance public transport. The Magna EV is engineered to elevate travel comfort, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to cleaner mobility across India.”
Minister T R B Rajaa noted that the initiative reflects Tamil Nadu’s broader goals of building a sustainable, future-ready public transport infrastructure while improving the quality of travel for residents. Sunil Kumar Ravindran, Managing Partner at UBS and Director of Green Energy Mobility Solutions, added,
“These zero-emission buses will help reduce operating costs while supporting our long-term commitment to environmentally responsible mobility solutions.”
