Tata Motors, a leading name in commercial vehicles, has received an order for 148 more electric buses from the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). The supply, operation, and maintenance of these Tata Starbus EV 12-metre low-floor buses will be managed by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, over a 12-year contract period.
This follows a previous order for 921 electric buses, a majority of which are already operational in Bengaluru, achieving an impressive uptime of over 95%. The Tata Starbus EV features a modern design and advanced battery technology, ensuring a safe, efficient, and eco-friendly commute within the city. These zero-emission buses align with Bengaluru’s efforts toward sustainable urban transport.
BMTC Managing Director Shri Ramachandran R., IAS, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, stating, “The performance of Tata Motors’ electric buses has been outstanding. This new fleet will further enhance our ability to provide green, reliable, and comfortable public transportation for Bengaluru’s citizens.”
TML Smart City Mobility Solutions CEO and MD Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay highlighted the significance of the new order, saying, “The additional buses underscore the proven reliability of our Starbus EVs and reflect BMTC’s confidence in our mobility solutions. We are committed to offering innovative and sustainable transportation options that benefit both people and the environment.”
Tata Motors’ electric buses in Bengaluru have already covered over 2.5 crore kilometers, reducing tailpipe emissions by approximately 14,000 tons of CO2.
