Tata Motors Breaks Ground on New Manufacturing Plant in Tamil Nadu

In a major move to boost indigenous manufacturing under the “Make in India, For the World” initiative, Tata Motors Group, India’s leading producer of commercial and passenger vehicles, conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for a new state-of-the-art production facility at Panapakkam in Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu. This advanced plant will manufacture next-generation vehicles for both Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), serving both domestic and international markets.

The event was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin, alongside Tata Sons & Tata Motors Chairman, N. Chandrasekaran, along with other key ministers, public officials, and Tata Group representatives. Chief Minister Stalin expressed his pride in Tata Group’s long-standing contributions to the state’s development and welcomed the new facility to further strengthen the partnership between Tamil Nadu and Tata Motors.

This cutting-edge facility is expected to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, while also helping to build future-ready skills in the local community. The plant will operate with a focus on sustainability, utilizing 100% renewable energy.

N. Chandrasekaran highlighted that this facility will become a key manufacturing hub for the next generation of cars, including electric and luxury vehicles. He emphasized Tamil Nadu’s robust industrial infrastructure and skilled workforce, and reaffirmed Tata Motors’ commitment to progressive policies, sustainability, and women’s empowerment in the workforce.

Tata Motors Group has committed approximately INR 9,000 crore to the greenfield project, with a planned annual production capacity exceeding 250,000 vehicles over the next 5 to 7 years.
