Tata Motors and HPCL to Introduce 5,000 EV Charging Stations

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, a division of Tata Motors, has joined forces with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) to set up 5,000 public charging stations throughout India by the end of this year. This collaboration capitalizes on HPCL’s wide-ranging fuel station network and the knowledge gained from Tata’s fleet of more than 1.2 lakh electric vehicles. The primary objective of this venture is to offer convenient charging options at strategic locations frequented by EV drivers, thereby enhancing the overall EV ownership experience.

As part of their partnership, there are discussions about developing a jointly branded RFID payment solution to enhance the efficiency of the charging process. With HPCL’s extensive network of more than 21,500 fuel stations across the country, the objective is to substantially enhance the electric vehicle charging infrastructure by the end of 2024. Balaje Rajan, the Chief Strategy Officer at TPEM, underscored the pivotal role of the partnership in propelling India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem forward.

Meanwhile, Debashis Chakraverty, HPCL’s Chief General Manager for Retail Strategy & Business Development, emphasized the strategic expansion opportunities in EV charging infrastructure by leveraging Tata Motors’ vehicle base. Rajan highlighted the partnership’s commitment to enhancing India’s EV landscape, while Chakraverty emphasized the strategic utilization of the company’ vehicle base to bolster the EV charging infrastructure network.
