Tata Electronics has signed an agreement with US-based chip design company Synopsys. They will work together on process technology and a foundry design platform at India’s first semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat.
Randhir Thakur, CEO of Tata Electronics, said, “We aim to lead in electronics manufacturing and see Synopsys as a key partner due to their expertise in semiconductor design.”
The collaboration will focus on areas like technology transfer, process design kits, intellectual property development, and design technology optimization. Synopsys’ chip design skills will be used in Tata’s new semiconductor facilities in Gujarat and Assam.
Last year, Tata Electronics announced a Rs 91,000 crore investment to build the fab in Dholera and another Rs 27,000 crore for a facility in Jagiroad, Assam, for assembling and testing chips. These facilities will produce chips for automotive, mobile devices, AI, and other sectors.
Tata Electronics said, “Partnerships across the semiconductor ecosystem are crucial. This collaboration with Synopsys is a key step in bringing semiconductor manufacturing to India.” Earlier this year, Synopsys opened a new chip design center in Noida, expected to employ 6,000 engineers, making it their second-largest design center in India.
