Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE), a leading firm in design, engineering, and project management, has announced the acquisition of Houston-based CDI Engineering Solutions, a move aimed at expanding its footprint in the North American market. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Founded in 1950, CDI employs over 600 professionals and operates eight engineering centers across the United States. The acquisition will enable TCE, a Tata Sons-owned subsidiary, to enhance its offerings in clean energy, decarbonization, and resilient infrastructure. CDI’s strong expertise and relationships with Fortune 500 companies are expected to complement TCE’s global capabilities.
TCE’s Managing Director and CEO, Amit Sharma, stated that the integration of CDI will allow the combined entity to deliver advanced solutions to address global challenges, including sustainable infrastructure and energy transitions. Steve Karlovic, President of CDI, highlighted their shared focus on innovation and sustainability, adding that the partnership would create new opportunities for employees and clients alike.
TCE, which began as Tata Ebasco in 1962 in collaboration with US-based Ebasco Services, became a wholly Tata-owned entity in 1968. In 2024, TCE reported revenues of ₹1,406 crore (approximately $170 million), with 60% of its business generated in India, including 35% from government clients. With this acquisition, TCE aims to solidify its global presence and continue driving innovation in engineering and project management solutions.
