Tata Communications, a major player in global communication technology, has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop a cutting-edge AI-ready network across India. This collaboration will build a robust long-distance network connecting AWS’s key infrastructure hubs in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai. The initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of generative AI and cloud innovation throughout the country. This project represents one of the largest network rollouts Tata Communications has undertaken in India, both in terms of scale and bandwidth capacity.
The new infrastructure will link AWS data centers in Mumbai and Hyderabad with AWS Direct Connect and Edge Network facilities in Chennai using a nationwide high-capacity long-haul network. This setup will serve as a powerful backbone for AI and machine learning workloads, delivering high bandwidth and low latency connections essential for demanding AI applications. Tata Communications’ advanced network capabilities combined with AWS’s specialized technologies will ensure top-tier security, availability, and performance across all AWS sites.
This partnership will enable Indian businesses to develop, train, and deploy scalable AI applications with improved efficiency, fostering innovation in sectors such as healthcare, finance, and education. The network’s express routes will provide ultra-low latency data transfer, crucial for compute-intensive AI and machine learning tasks. Security and compliance will be key priorities, ensuring data privacy and regulatory adherence throughout the network.
Genius Wong, Executive Vice President and CTO of Tata Communications, highlighted this project as the company’s largest national long-distance initiative to date, positioning Tata Communications as a preferred partner for complex, large-scale network deployments. He emphasized the network’s role in supporting India’s evolving AI landscape and meeting future technology demands.
Jesse Dougherty, Vice President for Network Edge Services at AWS, expressed enthusiasm about working with Tata Communications to build infrastructure tailored for data-intensive workloads like 5G and generative AI, enabling innovation at scale and contributing to the growth of India’s digital economy.
