Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd and Katcon Global have announced a new manufacturing partnership in Mexico aimed at producing advanced composite components for the North American market. The agreement, made official on May 14, 2025, will focus on delivering lightweight materials for a variety of applications, including passenger vehicles, commercial trucks, off-road machinery, agricultural tractors, and select non-automotive uses.
This new partnership expands on the two companies’ long-standing working relationship in India, which has spanned over a decade. Previously, their efforts centered around producing exhaust systems and emission control components. Now, the focus shifts to the growing demand for composite materials that offer strength and durability while significantly reducing weight.
In this collaboration, Tata AutoComp will bring proprietary technologies and key client relationships to the table. Their Composite Division, recently honored with the prestigious Deming Award, will play a leading role in driving product development through its patented composite formulations. Katcon will contribute its manufacturing expertise, local market understanding, and knowledge of industry regulations across North America.
Arvind Goel, Vice Chairman of Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd., emphasized the importance of this strategic move. “This marks a new chapter for our organization, where we are entering an international alliance as the primary technology provider,” Goel said, highlighting the significance of the company’s homegrown innovations being exported to global markets.
Carlos Turner, CEO of Katcon, echoed the enthusiasm, noting that the collaboration reflects both companies’ focus on offering solutions that meet the shifting demands of the mobility industry. “Through this venture, we are combining strengths to support the industry’s shift toward lighter and more energy-efficient platforms,” Turner remarked.
The joint operation will supply components that support weight reduction and environmental performance — key objectives for automakers looking to meet stricter efficiency and emissions regulations. By manufacturing locally in Mexico, the venture also aims to shorten supply chains and improve responsiveness to customers across North America.
Tata AutoComp, part of the Tata Group, was founded in 1995 and has since become a major supplier to global automakers. The company runs 18 business divisions, including multiple partnerships with leading automotive component suppliers. With a workforce of over 20,000, Tata AutoComp operates 61 production sites across India and internationally, including in North America, Europe, China, and Latin America.
Katcon, based in Monterrey, Mexico, has been serving the transportation sector since 1993. Known for its work in exhaust systems, insulation technologies, and composite solutions, the company maintains engineering and manufacturing centers across key global regions including Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
This new alliance aligns closely with both firms’ strategies to support the global transition to lighter, more sustainable materials in mobility and industrial applications. With increasing emphasis on fuel economy and emissions control, lightweight composite materials are expected to play a vital role in the future of vehicle design and production.
