Tata Passenger Electric Mobility is aiming for electric vehicles (EVs) to constitute 30% of its total passenger vehicle sales by 2030, according to Vivek Srivatsa, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer. This aligns with the government’s ambitious target of achieving 30% electric mobility penetration in India by the same year, Srivatsa mentioned during the opening of two new Tata EV showrooms in Kochi on Friday.

Srivatsa announced that the company plans to launch the Harrier EV in the last quarter of FY25. With an existing lineup that includes models like the Punch, Nexon, Tiago, Curvv, and the upcoming Harrier EV, Tata is confident of meeting its growth targets. He noted that EV sales are gaining momentum even in smaller towns, and with a favorable monsoon season, Tata expects strong demand for vehicles in the current fiscal year.

Regarding the Kerala market, Srivatsa highlighted that the state leads the country in EV penetration, with a growth rate of 5.6%, compared to the national average of 2.5%. He attributed this to high customer awareness, literacy, and a quick adoption of new technologies in Kerala. Additionally, the widespread use of solar power in the state has facilitated EV adoption by enabling cost-free charging for vehicles.

Srivatsa also pointed out that government initiatives, such as installing charging stations along highways and efforts by oil companies to set up EV charging points at petrol stations, are expected to further boost EV sales in Kerala.

Looking ahead, Tata plans to open five dedicated EV service centers across key cities in Kerala and increase the number of EV showrooms in the state to ten. The company is also optimistic about increased car demand during the Onam festival, which will be followed by other festive seasons
