Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) and Airbus Helicopters have signed a deal to set up a final assembly line (FAL) for single-engine H125 helicopters in India. This will be the first private sector helicopter assembly facility in the country. The agreement was signed at the Farnborough International Airshow.

The H125 helicopter, Airbus’ best-selling model, will be produced in India and for neighboring countries. The project supports India’s “Make in India” initiative and aims to boost the country’s aerospace sector and helicopter manufacturing capabilities.

Sukaran Singh, CEO of Tata Advanced Systems Ltd, expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting its alignment with India’s growing helicopter market potential. Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters, emphasized the potential for the “Made in India” H125 to open new markets, such as Helicopter Emergency Medical Services and other public services.

The FAL will handle integration of major components, avionics, mission systems, electrical harnesses, hydraulic circuits, flight controls, dynamic components, fuel systems, and the engine. It will also carry out testing and qualification of the helicopters.

Helicopters assembled at this facility will be delivered to customers in India and neighboring countries. The location of the FAL will be announced soon. The H125, known for its versatility and high performance, is part of Airbus’ Ecureuil family, which has accumulated over 40 million flight hours worldwide.

The H125 is capable of operating in extreme environments and can be reconfigured for various missions, including aerial work, firefighting, law enforcement, rescue, air ambulance, and passenger transport. Notably, it is the only helicopter to have landed on Mount Everest.
