Synergy Marine Group has assumed technical management of YM WILLPOWER and YM WORTHINESS, two newly delivered 15,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessels owned by Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation. The sister vessels were built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, as part of Yang Ming’s ongoing fleet modernization programme aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and environmental performance.
Under Synergy’s management, the vessels are supported by experienced global shore teams and trained seafarers with expertise in LNG-fuelled operations. The technical scope includes crewing, planned maintenance, safety management systems, performance monitoring, fuel handling procedures, and full regulatory compliance. Particular emphasis has been placed on safe LNG operations and adherence to international maritime standards.
YM WILLPOWER commenced her maiden voyage on 8 February, joining Yang Ming’s MD2 service connecting Asia and the Mediterranean. Both vessels are managed in accordance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code under a Document of Compliance held by Synergy Onyx in Pune. Operational oversight is provided round-the-clock from India, supported by dedicated shore-based teams and Indian seafarers trained in LNG dual-fuel systems.
Ajay Chaudhry, Co-CEO – Ship Management, Synergy Marine Group, stated that managing LNG dual-fuel container vessels requires strong preparation, technical depth, and disciplined execution. He noted that India continues to strengthen its capabilities across maritime training, systems management, and operational supervision to support next-generation fleets.
Jesper Kristensen, Group CEO, Synergy Marine Group, added that India’s role in global shipping has evolved significantly beyond crewing. He emphasized that skilled seafarers, robust shore-based oversight, and expanding technical infrastructure are now supporting some of the most advanced vessels operating worldwide.
Each vessel is equipped with high-pressure LNG dual-fuel main engines capable of running on liquefied natural gas as well as conventional marine fuels. Energy-efficient hull forms, advanced automation systems, and integrated monitoring platforms further enhance fuel efficiency and environmental performance.
Headquartered in Singapore, Synergy Marine Group maintains a strong operational presence in India, with offices across seven cities. Over 70 percent of its 28,000 seagoing workforce and nearly 85 percent of its 3,000 shore-based employees are Indian nationals.
The Group is also the largest third-party manager of Indian-flagged vessels. The addition of YM WILLPOWER and YM WORTHINESS further strengthens Synergy’s position in alternative-fuel vessel management, aligning with Yang Ming’s long-term strategy to modernize its container fleet responsibly and sustainably.
