SWITCH Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group and a prominent name in electric buses and light commercial vehicles, has officially launched the first batch of its SWITCH EiV12 low-floor electric city buses for Delhi’s Department of Transport. This rollout is the first portion of a landmark 950-unit order awarded under the CESL tender process.
The buses were formally flagged off by Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, alongside dignitaries including Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Singh; North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari; Timarpur MLA Surya Prakash Khatri; Commissioner of Transport Niharika Rai; DTC Managing Director Prince Dhawan; Senior Advisor to the Hinduja Group Dr Chadda; SWITCH Mobility’s CCO RG Venkataraman; and Ohm Global Mobility’s CEO Saurabh Chaudhary. The event marked a significant step in Delhi’s shift toward cleaner, sustainable urban transit.
Manufactured domestically at SWITCH’s advanced facility, these buses reflect the company’s “Make in India for the World” approach, merging global technology with local production expertise. The ultra-low-floor 12-meter SWITCH EiV12 model is engineered to meet the demands of Delhi’s urban transit network, offering seating for 39 passengers, extended range suitable for daily operation, and features for enhanced safety and convenience. Amenities include a wheelchair ramp, CCTV surveillance, panic buttons, and GPS tracking. The design focuses on global standards for durability, performance, and rider comfort.
RG Venkataraman, SWITCH’s Chief Commercial Officer, commented, “We are pleased to begin delivery of our SWITCH EiV12 buses to Delhi, reinforcing the city’s leadership in sustainable mobility. These electric buses, built in India using advanced global technology, will boost Delhi’s public transport while contributing to cleaner air and a better commuting experience.”
These buses also feature a streamlined structure for easy boarding, efficient dual-gun rear-end charging for fast turnaround at depots, and SWITCH’s proprietary telematics system—SWITCH iON—enabling real-time vehicle monitoring, smart fleet management, and Intelligent Transportation Management System (ITMS) functionality.
Safety features include a floor-mounted LFP battery pack, lowering the center of gravity for improved stability, and an advanced Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS) to enhance onboard safety. The buses align with Delhi’s strategy to maintain the highest number of electric buses in any Indian city. Their deployment is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions, improve air quality, and offer a safer and more comfortable commute to millions of Delhi’s daily bus users.
