Swaraj Tractors, a key brand under the Mahindra Group, has crossed a major production milestone with the rollout of its 25th lakh tractor from its Mohali facility in Punjab. This achievement comes just three years after it reached the 20-lakh mark in 2022, reinforcing Swaraj’s position as one of the fastest-growing tractor makers in the country.

The journey of Swaraj began in 1974 with the launch of its first model, the ‘Swaraj 724’ in the 20–25 HP range — India’s first tractor to be designed and built entirely by local engineers. Born during the Green Revolution, the brand’s name was inspired by the drive for self-reliance, offering tough, reliable, and cost-effective machines tailored for Indian farmland.

After reaching 5 lakh units in 2002, the brand has grown fivefold in just over two decades. The 25-lakh milestone is a reflection of the trust farmers have placed in Swaraj over generations. The company’s current lineup includes well-known models like Swaraj 855, 735, 744, 960, 742, 963, the compact Swaraj Target, and the recently introduced Naya Swaraj series. These tractors serve a wide range of farming needs, from traditional crop cultivation to modern, lightweight, and precision-based tasks.

Speaking on this achievement, Veejay Nakra, President of the Farm Equipment sector at M&M Ltd, said, “This milestone is a clear sign of the bond that Indian farmers share with the Swaraj brand. Built on the values of independence and resilience, Swaraj is more than a machine – it’s a symbol of progress.”

Gaganjot Singh, CEO of the Swaraj Division, added, “Every Swaraj tractor represents a partnership with the farmer. Our strength lies in understanding their needs, challenges, and goals. Reaching the 25-lakh mark motivates us to keep building solutions that support farmers in their growth.”

Over the years, Swaraj has become an integral part of farming life across India. From a farmer’s first tractor to machines passed down through generations, the brand holds a deep emotional connection in rural India. Known for their durability and performance across different terrains, Swaraj tractors continue to deliver consistent value to farmers.

Swaraj Tractors, a part of the Mahindra Group, is India’s second-largest tractor brand by volume and continues to grow rapidly. Founded in 1974 in Punjab, Swaraj was built with a unique perspective — many of its team members are farmers themselves, helping create tractors that reflect real-world farming needs. The company manufactures a range of machines from 15 HP to 65 HP, offering both traditional and specialized solutions for various agricultural requirements, including horticulture.

The Mahindra Group, established in 1945, is one of India’s leading business federations, employing over 260,000 people in more than 100 countries. It holds leadership positions in agriculture equipment, utility vehicles, financial services, and IT. Mahindra is the world’s largest tractor manufacturer by volume and plays a significant role in sectors such as clean energy, real estate, logistics, and hospitality. The Group is deeply committed to sustainable development and inclusive growth, with a mission to uplift communities and promote prosperity across rural and urban India.
