Swan Energy Limited (SEL), a prominent multinational group with interests in textiles, real estate, oil and gas, shipbuilding, and heavy engineering, is excited to announce the resumption of operations at its shipyard, formerly known as Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited (RNEL). The shipyard has officially resumed its ship refit services, with the Indian Coast Guard’s fast patrol vessel, Raj Ratan, being the first project undertaken.
The refit, which started on September 4, 2024, was completed ahead of schedule by November 30, 2024, in collaboration with Sadhav Offshore Engineering Pvt. Ltd. This successful repair marks a key milestone in the revival of the shipyard after SEL took over its management earlier this year through the NCLT process.
The comprehensive refit of the ICG vessel included dry docking, critical yard services, and other essential overhaul activities. Swan’s Shipyard is now preparing to launch its shipbuilding operations as part of its ongoing expansion plans.
Mr Vivek Merchant, Director of Swan’s Shipyard, stated, “The resumption of operations at our shipyard represents a major achievement in revitalizing this crucial facility. Successfully delivering our first Indian Coast Guard vessel highlights our dedication to strengthening India’s ship repair and shipbuilding capabilities. Our goal is to position our shipyard as a global leader in both defense and commercial ship manufacturing, as well as the heavy engineering sector.”
Swan’s Shipyard is home to India’s largest dry dock, measuring 662 meters by 65 meters, and one of the largest in the world. The dry dock is equipped with a 600-tonne SWL goliath crane. Other facilities at the shipyard include modern fabrication, piping, and painting plants with a monthly capacity of 12,000 tons, a pre-erection berth measuring 980 meters by 40 meters, and a 350-meter dual-berthing quay for afloat fit-out and commissioning of ships.
Swan’s Shipyard (formerly RNEL) is India’s largest shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company. Located on the west coast of India, it features a 662m x 65m dry dock and a fabrication capacity of 144,000 tons per year. The shipyard is dedicated to innovation and excellence, positioning itself as a major player in India’s maritime and heavy fabrication industries.
