Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), a leading player in India’s commercial and defense shipbuilding, ship repairs, and heavy fabrication sectors, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE). The agreement, finalized on April 7, 2025, at GRSE Bhavan, is a key step in bolstering India’s domestic commercial shipbuilding industry. This collaboration aligns with the Government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision and underscores SDHI’s dedication to developing world-class maritime infrastructure in India.

The collaboration will focus on exploring opportunities in building commercial vessels and offshore structures, addressing both global and local maritime needs. By combining their expertise in design, infrastructure, and project execution, SDHI and GRSE aim to establish a scalable and robust model for commercial shipbuilding. The MoU also lays the foundation for shared facilities, co-development of standardized vessel designs, and synchronized project management strategies, which are expected to result in quicker turnaround times and improved cost efficiency.

This partnership also aims to create a stronger vendor and supply chain network, emphasizing joint sourcing and procurement advantages. Additionally, the MoU focuses on workforce development, ensuring that the growth of the shipbuilding sector is supported by skilled labor. Both companies are committed to collaborating not only on vessel construction but also on areas like ship trials and repairs, fostering a long-term model of industrial cooperation.
