Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) has initiated manufacturing of its first electric scooter, Suzuki e-ACCESS, at its facility in Gurugram, Haryana. The move marks the company’s formal entry into the electric two-wheeler segment in India.
The e-ACCESS, initially revealed at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, is developed for urban mobility and short-distance commuting. Built on Suzuki’s proprietary e-Technology platform, the scooter incorporates a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery known for thermal stability and long cycle life.
The vehicle incorporates several advanced technical features aimed at enhancing performance and rider experience. Among these are regenerative braking, which captures energy during deceleration to improve efficiency, and a maintenance-free belt drive system that ensures smooth, reliable power transmission with minimal upkeep. Additionally, the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector-e (SDMS-e) offers three customizable riding modes—Eco, Ride A, and Ride B—tailored to different riding conditions and preferences. A reverse mode is also included for added maneuverability in tight spaces.
To guarantee the longevity and reliability of the system, Suzuki subjected the battery and associated components to a comprehensive battery of tests. These tests were designed to simulate extreme real-world conditions and verify the system’s resilience under stress. Key evaluations included submersion trials to test water resistance, and thermal exposure assessments at both high and low temperatures to ensure consistent performance across climates.
Furthermore, the durability testing regime encompassed impact and vibration testing, simulating the physical demands of everyday riding. Motor bench testing and mechanical stress evaluations were also conducted to assess the integrity and performance of the motor and structural components under prolonged use. This rigorous testing process ensures the system meets high standards of safety and durability for long-term rider confidence.
According to the company, the e-ACCESS delivers steady performance across speed ranges, including under low battery conditions, and is engineered for both congested urban roads and open stretches. Suzuki is also upgrading its dealership network to support electric mobility. This includes setting up service infrastructure and training personnel specifically for electric two-wheelers.
SMIPL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, began operations in India in 2006. Its Gurugram plant has an annual capacity of 1.3 million units. The company currently produces 125cc scooters, motorcycles above 150cc, and higher displacement premium models. The Indian electric two-wheeler industry is experiencing rapid expansion, driven by government policies, incentive schemes, and infrastructure initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable transportation.
