Suzuki Motorcycle India Begins Construction of INR 12 Billion Manufacturing Facility in Kharkhoda

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), a major player in the two-wheeler industry, has initiated the construction of its second manufacturing plant at the Industrial Model Township (IMT) in Kharkhoda, Haryana. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the company and was attended by Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director of Suzuki Motorcycle India; Takashi Ise, Executive General Manager, Motorcycle Operations, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan; and Tsuyoshi Tanaka, Executive General Manager, Quality Assurance and Inspection Operations, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan. Also present were senior executives from Suzuki Motor Corporation and SMIPL, along with Dr Manoj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Sonipat, and Kyoko Hokugo, Minister of Economics at the Embassy of Japan in India.

An investment of approximately INR 12 billion is allocated for this facility, which will be developed in phases. The plant will cover 100 acres, with 25 acres designated for initial construction and another 25 acres preserved as green space. Upon commencement of operations in 2027, the facility is projected to produce 750,000 units annually in its first phase and is expected to create employment opportunities for nearly 2,000 individuals.

According to Kenichi Umeda, the new facility represents a strategic effort to contribute to regional development, job creation, and alignment with national industrial goals. The plant’s design emphasizes lean manufacturing, automation, and energy-efficient technologies, supporting Suzuki’s broader sustainability and carbon neutrality objectives.

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan. Established in 2006, SMIPL operates a manufacturing facility in Gurgaon, Haryana, with an annual production capacity of 540,000 units.

The company offers a diverse range of two-wheelers tailored to the Indian market, including motorcycles like the Gixxer series and scooters such as the Access 125 and Burgman Street. In May 2025, Suzuki laid the foundation for a new motorcycle plant in India to meet the growing demand, with an initial production capacity of 750,000 units. Since its inception, SMIPL has manufactured approximately 9 million motorcycles, supplying both domestic and international markets, including Latin America, Japan, and Europe.
