Suzlon Secures India’s Largest Wind Turbine Order from NTPC

Suzlon, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, announced on Monday that it has secured the largest wind energy order in India’s history, valued at 1,166 MW, from NTPC Green Energy Ltd. Under this major contract, Suzlon will install 370 wind turbine generators (WTGs) of the S144 model, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW.

These turbines will be equipped with Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers and will be deployed across two projects managed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), and one project managed by IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt Ltd, a group company of NGEL, all located in Gujarat.

With this new order, Suzlon’s total order book now stands at approximately 5 GW as of September 3, 2024. Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are thrilled to collaborate with NTPC Green Energy Ltd, the renewable energy arm of India’s largest utility, NTPC Ltd. This order reaffirms our position as the leading Wind Energy Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in the country.”

This initiative will become the largest wind energy project undertaken by a public sector unit (PSU) in Gujarat, further solidifying the state’s role as a leader in renewable energy. The completion of this project is expected to set new standards for future ventures, significantly contributing to India’s energy independence, economic growth, and NGEL’s goal of adding 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. As part of the agreement, Suzlon will handle the supply, installation, and commissioning of the wind turbines, as well as provide ongoing operations and maintenance services post-commissioning.
