Suzlon Energy Ltd. announced on December 4 that it has secured a 302.4 MW wind power project order from Jindal Renewables’ subsidiary, JSP Green Wind 1 Pvt. Ltd., in the Koppal region of Karnataka. This project aims to boost India’s green steel production efforts.

This new order follows Suzlon’s previous success in securing a 400 MW captive wind power project from Jindal Renewables in the same region last month, marking the largest-ever Commercial and Industrial (C&I) order for Suzlon from a single client. C&I customers now make up 56% of Suzlon’s record-high 5.4 GW order book.

Under the agreement, Suzlon will supply 96 S144 wind turbine generators (WTGs), each with a capacity of 3.15 MW, using Hybrid Lattice (HLT) towers. The energy generated will be used for captive consumption at steel plants in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, furthering Suzlon’s commitment to sustainability.

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of the Suzlon Group, stated, “This partnership advances our shared green steel goal and will help India meet its target of 50% electricity from non-fossil sources by 2030.” Jindal Renewables President Bharat Saxena highlighted that this initiative is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to increase its use of renewable energy solutions, with more such projects planned in the future.
