Sunsure Energy has commissioned a new 82.5 MWp open access solar power facility in Erach, Jhansi, marking its tenth solar project in Uttar Pradesh. With this latest addition, Sunsure now operates 260 MWp of solar capacity across key districts including Agra, Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot — making it the largest clean energy developer in the state.
The new plant is projected to deliver approximately 128 million units of electricity annually and is expected to offset over 2.2 million tonnes of carbon emissions over its lifecycle. The facility will supply power to major industrial clients including Haldiram’s, APL Apollo, and a leading national data center.
“We started our solar journey in Uttar Pradesh with a 15 MW project in 2021. Reaching 300 MW in just four years is a significant milestone,” said Shashank Sharma, Founder and CEO of Sunsure Energy. “Uttar Pradesh’s strong industrial growth demands reliable green energy, and we are proud to support this momentum with clean power generated within the state.”
The company credits the state’s Solar Energy Policy 2022 for creating a favorable investment environment. Features such as banking support, exemptions on transmission and wheeling charges, and facilitation of third-party open access sales have encouraged large-scale solar deployments.
“Our consumer base spans sectors like FMCG, steel, cement, ceramics, and data centers,” Mr Sharma noted. “We’re now moving beyond conventional solar to offer integrated solar-plus-storage systems, enabling 24/7 renewable power and improving supply reliability during peak demand.”
Sunsure is also advancing a 125 MW / 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) through a recent NTPC tender win — one of the largest storage-linked clean power projects planned in the state. Under its ‘UP Shakti’ initiative, Sunsure continues to expand its footprint in the region, delivering power to industrial names such as Jindal Stainless, Dabur, Kajaria Ceramics, Wonder Cement, and Gallantt Ispat.
Sunsure currently operates 600 MW of renewable assets and has 7.5 GW in various stages of development across India, targeting a 10 GW portfolio by 2030. The company is backed by Partners Group AG, with a $400 million equity commitment toward scaling its presence as a leading industrial decarbonization platform in India and Southeast Asia.
