Sungrow, a leading provider of photovoltaic inverters and energy storage solutions, has signed an agreement with Penso Power and BW ESS to supply 1.4 GWh of its PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems. These systems will support the development of the Hams Hall energy storage project in central England.

The UK is currently experiencing a surge in the integration of renewable energy into its power grid. However, the declining grid inertia and increasing voltage instability have posed significant challenges to the reliability of the power system. As a result, the demand for large-scale energy storage solutions has grown in the UK’s ancillary services market.

280 Grid-Forming Energy Storage Systems to Enhance Grid Stability

The project will deploy 280 units of the PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage systems, specifically designed for grid-forming applications. These advanced systems feature black start capability, allowing them to quickly restore power in the event of a regional power outage. Additionally, they are equipped to manage grid frequency and voltage fluctuations, offering rapid inertia support, broadband oscillation suppression, and precise voltage control. These features will significantly bolster the resilience and stability of the UK’s power grid, ensuring long-term efficiency and sustainability in the ancillary services market.
