Sunflower Therapeutics has completed the delivery and installation of multiple Daisy Petal™ Perfusion Bioreactor Systems at the Serum Institute of India Pvt Ltd (SIIPL), part of the Cyrus Poonawalla Group and the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer. This installation represents the largest deployment of the Daisy Petal™ platform to date and reflects the increasing global shift toward perfusion-based manufacturing for vaccine and biologics production.
The Daisy Petal™ system introduces a single-use, perfusion-ready bioreactor design intended to simplify setup, optimize efficiency, and deliver high-volume output in compact manufacturing environments. The platform incorporates an in-vessel cell-retention mechanism within a disposable stirred-tank reactor, enabling five-to-ten times higher productivity than traditional fed-batch fermentation processes and supporting seamless scale-up from development to commercial production.
“This milestone installation at the Serum Institute marks a significant step toward expanding access to advanced biologics manufacturing,” said Dr Kerry R Love, Founder, CEO and President of Sunflower Therapeutics. “The Daisy Petal™ platform provides a compact and automated path to high-quality protein production, enabling organizations like SIIPL to accelerate vaccine development and manufacturing.”
The system integrates with Sunflower’s GMP-ready bioprocessing software suite—HelianthOS™, Nursery™, and Harvest™—designed for automated operation, simplified recipe creation without coding, and secure data management across full production runs. Together, these tools create a unified environment that supports efficient, scalable, and regulatory-compliant biomanufacturing.
