Sun Drops Energia Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of KPI Green Energy Limited (“the Company”), has achieved a significant strategic milestone with the receipt of a Letter of Intent (“LOI”) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (“GUVNL”) for the development of self-owned Independent Power Producer (“IPP”) Standalone Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) projects. The proposed projects will have an aggregate capacity of 445 MW / 890 MWh and are to be set up at multiple locations across the State of Gujarat.

The LOI marks a major step forward in Sun Drops Energia Private Limited’s expansion into large-scale energy storage solutions and reinforces KPI Green Energy Limited’s position as a key participant in India’s evolving renewable energy and power infrastructure landscape. The BESS projects are intended to play a critical role in enhancing grid stability, enabling higher penetration of renewable energy, and supporting peak power management in Gujarat.

Under the proposed arrangement, Sun Drops Energia Private Limited will develop, own, and operate the standalone BESS projects on an IPP basis. The systems will be designed to store energy during off-peak periods and discharge power during peak demand hours, thereby improving overall grid efficiency and reliability. With a total storage capacity of 890 MWh, the projects are expected to provide significant flexibility to the state power distribution network and contribute to balancing intermittent renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.

Commenting on the development, the management of KPI Green Energy Limited stated that the receipt of the LOI from GUVNL represents a strong endorsement of the Company’s technical capabilities, execution track record, and long-term vision in the clean energy sector. “This milestone underscores our commitment to delivering innovative and future-ready energy solutions. Energy storage is a critical enabler of India’s renewable energy transition, and these BESS projects will support grid resilience while creating long-term value for stakeholders,” the Company said.

The projects are aligned with the Government of India’s policy thrust on energy storage and its broader objective of achieving energy security and sustainability. Gujarat, being one of the leading states in renewable energy deployment, is actively pursuing large-scale storage solutions to complement its growing renewable capacity. The proposed BESS installations are expected to support the state’s clean energy targets while reducing dependence on conventional peaking power sources.

In addition to strengthening the power infrastructure, the development of these BESS projects is anticipated to generate economic benefits, including employment opportunities during construction and operation phases, as well as the development of local supply chains and technical expertise in advanced energy storage technologies.

Following the receipt of the LOI, Sun Drops Energia Private Limited will proceed with the next steps, including execution of definitive agreements, detailed project planning, and securing necessary approvals. The Company remains focused on timely execution while adhering to the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.
