Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has been chosen by Subaru to power its next-generation EyeSight driver assistance system with cutting-edge AI and image recognition technology. Subaru will utilize HPE’s Cray XD670 servers to enhance the optimization, training, and inference of AI algorithms crucial for EyeSight’s capabilities. This collaboration supports Subaru’s commitment to improving vehicle safety and providing more value to its customers, aligning with its broader goal of reducing traffic fatalities.
The Cray XD670 servers, equipped with energy-efficient direct liquid cooling, are expected to significantly accelerate Subaru’s AI advancements. This move is part of Subaru’s ongoing effort to make EyeSight the most precise and effective driver-assistance system available. The new system aims to enhance vehicle safety by using AI to accurately measure and classify objects in the vehicle’s surroundings, leveraging stereo camera images.
Subaru’s EyeSight system has been at the forefront of vehicle safety for over 35 years, and with the integration of AI, it is poised to further reduce accidents and prevent rear-end collisions. The ultimate goal is to eliminate fatal traffic accidents by 2030.

Takashi Kanai, Deputy Chief of Subaru Lab, added, “With the energy-efficient Cray XD670 servers delivering twice the performance of our previous systems, we can fully optimize GPU resources and accelerate our AI model development. This will help us continue improving our driver-assistance technology.”
Subaru’s SUBARU Lab, established in 2020, plays a key role in advancing the company’s advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Engineers and researchers at SUBARU Lab are gathering video data from roadways around the world, which is then used to improve AI algorithms and develop better image recognition models. These advancements are being supported by the HPE Cray XD670, featuring NVIDIA H200 GPUs, which enable faster training and model optimization.
In addition to the Cray XD670 servers, Subaru also opted for HPE Tech Care Service, which ensures rapid access to HPE experts and provides intuitive self-help tools through the HPE Support Center. This service package is designed to reduce downtime and maximize the return on investment in HPE solutions.
The HPE Cray XD670 system features direct liquid cooling to provide optimal energy efficiency and performance. Its powerful eight NVIDIA H200 GPUs make it well-suited for AI model training and inference, with top rankings in the MLPerf Inference v5.0 benchmarks. This high-performance infrastructure is instrumental in developing advanced safety features for Subaru’s vehicles, ensuring the brand continues to lead the way in automotive innovation.
