STMicroelectronics Earns Top Recognition for Climate and Water Stewardship from CDP

STMicroelectronics

STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global leader in semiconductor technologies, has been recognized by the environmental non-profit CDP for its performance in addressing climate change and water security. The company has been included in CDP’s 2024 ‘A List’ for Climate Change and received an ‘A-’ rating for Water Security.

This recognition is based on the company’s disclosures to CDP’s 2024 Climate questionnaire. STMicroelectronics is among a select group of companies—out of nearly 22,400 assessed globally—that achieved a top-tier ‘A’ rating for climate leadership. The designation reflects the company’s high level of transparency and its significant progress in reducing carbon emissions across its operations.

CDP’s assessment framework, aligned with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), is widely regarded as a global benchmark for corporate environmental transparency. Its data and ratings are increasingly used by investors and supply chain stakeholders to support the transition to a zero-carbon, resilient global economy.

STMicroelectronics has been disclosing its climate-related data to CDP since 2004. The company’s inclusion on the ‘A List’ recognizes its long-term efforts to mitigate climate risks, implement emissions reduction measures, and engage suppliers on climate-related initiatives as part of its broader sustainability strategy.

The company also earned an ‘A-’ score in the Water Security category, acknowledging its commitment to reducing water consumption and managing water resources responsibly across its global operations. This includes initiatives in water reuse, recycling, and community engagement.

ST has set a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2027, covering direct and indirect emissions (Scopes 1 and 2), as well as specific Scope 3 categories such as product transportation, business travel, and employee commuting. In support of this goal, the company is also working to decarbonize its supply chain through supplier engagement and upstream emissions reduction.

In addition to climate goals, ST has established new targets for energy efficiency, water resource management, and certification under the Alliance for Water Stewardship. These initiatives form part of the company’s broader environmental objectives set through 2030 and 2035.

STMicroelectronics employs approximately 50,000 individuals and operates a fully integrated manufacturing model across its global facilities. The company collaborates with over 200,000 customers and thousands of partners to develop advanced semiconductor solutions that support intelligent mobility, efficient energy usage, and scalable autonomous systems.

As part of its ongoing sustainability roadmap, ST aims to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by the end of 2027. The company’s climate and environmental goals reflect its broader commitment to responsible innovation and long-term value creation.
